Vax, Mask & Relax Contest

Wearing a mask at health care facilities combined with getting your COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations is mandatory at Health PEI to protect yourself and others.

For many health care workers, these precautionary measures are also personal. We want to hear why you mask at health care facilities and get your COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations.

Why do you vaccinate and mask?

Tell us your personal reason and you could win a $200 gift certificate from Mysa Nordic Spa and Resort.

How to enter

  1. Share why you get vaccinated for COVID-19 and influenza and also wear a mask in health care settings in either a sentence or two OR a short selfie video. Please ensure no patients or other people who don’t work for Health PEI are in the background. (If you want to include a person who doesn’t work for Health PEI in your video, please contact HealthPEIweb@ihis.org. for a video release form.)
  2. Send your written reason plus your photo OR your video in MP4 or Mov format to HealthPEIweb@ihis.org

Your name will be entered in a monthly random draw for a $200 gift certificate to Mysa Nordi Spa and Resort. Draws will be held on Dec. 16, Jan. 15, Feb. 14, and Mar. 14. Winners will be notified by email.

All videos will be shared on this page. Select videos will also be shared in the Vital Insight.

This contest is open to all staff, physicians, interns/students, volunteers and contract workers with Health PEI.

Contest closes at noon on March 14.

Where to get vaccinated
You can get vaccinated at a staff immunization clinic, community pharmacy, your health care provider’s office or a Public Health Nursing community clinic.  If you are vaccinated in the community, your healthcare provider must complete a validation form and return it to HPEIEmployeeHealth@ihis.org.

Where to mask
As of October 10, universal masking is mandatory for all direct patient care. Wear a surgical mask when within two meters of any patient/resident or client.  For more information, see the CEO memo.

I vax for all those in my life who are immunocompromised. It's just one of the small things I can do as a healthy individual to support those I love.

Reason: to stay safe and keep others safe as well. Vaccination helps to protect and immune us and wearing masks helps to keep us safe from getting infected as well as keep others around us safe from getting infected with whatever we might have in our body .

- Anuoluwapo Taiwo

I make it a priority to get my flu and COVID vaccinations and wear a mask beyond the minimum requirements to help protect my frail, elderly residents. They have worked hard their entire lives and deserve the best care possible. Given their vulnerability, the least I can do is ensure their safety to the best of my ability.

It is such a simple thing to do but has such far-reaching impacts for those around us.

There are many reasons why I Vax & Mask. The main reason I do is for my tiny patients. I am an RN at the QEH NICU. These tiny patients are strong and resilient, but making sure that I am vaccinated and masking around them helps to protect them and let them focus on getting bigger to be home with their families! I also do it to protect my friends and family (especially their children). As a nurse we see so many sick patients during influenza season and I would never want to see my love ones going through that. A 3 second poke is worth it to protect those around me.

- Heidi Hennessey

I vaccinate myself because its evidence based and current best practice. We know it works to protect the vulnerable and reduce severity of illness! I vaccinate to protect my family, friends, and patients at the hospital. I am a UPEI Nurse Practitioner student as well as a staff RN at the QEH. I vaccinate as I am in many clinical areas of Health PEI and It's important to me that I do all that I can to keep my clients as safe and healthy as possible.

- Chantal Smith

Lots of reasons why I get my flu and covid shots, but I think the biggest one is that I really worry about people in my family and community who are older or who have other health issues and I really wouldn’t want to be the one to pass it along and maybe make someone more sick than I would be with either.

I want Covid to continue to lose it’s power.

- Melanie Field

I also help during vaccine clinics to administer all appropriate immunizations to my residents and my co staff. Wearing masks, vaccinating and washing your hands is the best was to prevent the spread of diseases and keep us safe.

I got my flu and COVID vaccines this year for my family, for my friends and for me!  I want to stay as healthy as possible so that I can enjoy all the moments.  This year, my family and I made sure we had these vaccines prior to a family vacation with amazing friends.  None of us like getting needles, but it was totally worth it as we all stayed health on our trip!

I got both my COVID and flu shot to make sure that I'm keeping those around me safe.  Also, when I think I might be getting sick, it's easy just to put on a mask to reassure myself that I'm doing my part to keep germs at bay.  Sharing is caring, but not when it comes to COVID and the flu!

- Michelle Neville

Getting flu and COVID shots and masking, even beyond mandates, helps protect yourself, others, and the community. Vaccines reduce severe illness, while masks prevent spreading viruses to vulnerable individuals. These actions support public health, prevent long-term effects, and demonstrate care for others.
I do it for the elderly I work with and the friends and Family I have.

- Marianne Anthony

I got vaxed and I mask (if necessary) to protect my family and co-workers but probably ultimately I was being selfish and got for my self…..retiring in new year and want to be healthy.

- Crystal Bell

I vax and wear a mask for all my loved ones to help stop the spread within my close network, as well as the community to help those who are more susceptible to severe illness. Being sick is not fun, and can be terrifying for some – let’s all do our part!

I get my flu and COVID shots and wear a mask not just because it's required, but because I love my family and friends. I want to protect them from illness and keep them safe. I also love the place I now call home—Prince Edward Island—and I want to do my part in keeping the community healthy. I understand that my vaccines can help reduce the spread of these diseases, even if it's just in a small way. That's why I make sure to book my flu and COVID vaccines in advance—so I can stay healthy and protect the people around me. It’s all about taking responsibility and showing care for those I care about.

I get my flu/covid shots for a variety of reasons: I have young children that I want to protect. I also have people in my life who are immunocompromised and/or elderly that I feel a need to protect. It feels good knowing that I am protecting them and also myself. Dealing with patients on a daily basis, this has always been important to me.

- Shalene Roach

The presence of caring parents in our lives is truly the most wonderful gift. They provide so very much for us, it is the least that we can do to ensure they are safe and well. Since returning to PEI, I take every measure to protect two of the most precious people in my life (mom age 81 and dad age 88).
