Dear Colleagues,
Today, our health care community is mourning a profound loss. An Island EMS vehicle making a patient transfer was involved in a collision in New Brunswick this morning, and tragically two paramedics and a patient lost their lives.
Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims of this tragedy.
It is difficult to find the right words at a time like this. We are a community of people dedicated to caring for the lives of Islanders. In one devastating moment, we lost two dedicated caregivers and a patient.
I know this news is deeply upsetting. Please remember to take care of yourselves and support one another in the days ahead.
The Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team has been activated and sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital to provide support.
Additional support includes:
- The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all staff. Details of how to access this program can be found at Employee Assistance Program
- Mind Beacon Mental Health Support can be accessed at MindBeacon
- Mental Health and Addictions Open Access Counselling services are available across Prince Edward Island for anyone who may need support. No appointment or referral is required. Information on locations and hours is available at Mental Health and Addictions Open Access Counselling
Please reach out to your supervisor with any questions or concerns. As a team, we will continue to support one another during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Laurae
