Education
Health PEI is committed to creating safe, respectful environments for all clients. We are pleased to announce that Adult Protection education resources will soon be available for staff across all Health PEI programs.
Why is this important?
Under the Adult Protection Act (PEI), every staff member in health care, social services, education, law enforcement, and related fields has a legal duty to report suspected abuse, neglect, or incapacity. Reporting is mandatory, not optional.
What you’ll learn:
- How Adult Protection supports vulnerable adults who cannot protect themselves.
- Your role in recognizing risk, reporting concerns promptly, and collaborating with Adult Protection Social Workers.
- Key principles: respecting autonomy, ensuring least intrusive interventions, and understanding decision-specific capacity.
Why it matters to you:
Protecting vulnerable adults is a shared responsibility. Speaking up, documenting, and reporting concerns safeguard both clients and our organization.
Protecting the vulnerable is not just a duty—it’s a reflection of our humanity. Every action you take can be the turning point in someone’s life.
