CEO MESSAGE: Announcing Health PEI’s new Chief Operating Officer

August 13, 2025

Hi everyone,

It is my great pleasure today to announce our search for a permanent Chief Operating Officer (COO) has been successful, and we will be welcoming Chris Nickerson to the Health PEI team.  Thank you to Lisa Thibeau, Deputy Minister of Health and Wellness, and Dr. Richard Wedge, Health PEI Board Member, for their support in the process.

Chris is an experienced and engaged executive leader of complex and diverse organizations who likes to be present in the field and engage with the team. He has strong problem-solving and creative leadership abilities paired with excellent interpersonal skills developed early in his career as a paramedic. Chris is an innovator with in-depth experience managing complex and long-term projects in health care operations.

Chris is excited to come back home to the east coast,  as the outgoing Assistant Deputy Minister of the Acute Care Division, Ministry of Hospital and Surgical Services, at Government of Alberta. Previously, Chris was an Executive Director for Health System Planning & Quality and has also held leadership positions with the Government of Nova Scotia, Government of British Columbia, and BC Ambulance Service.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Ronan Segrave, who has been serving as the interim COO for the past several months with a steady and capable hand. Health PEI has benefited from his leadership, and we wish him all the best with his future endeavors. Ronan will stay on for a two-week transition period. Please join me in welcoming Chris Nickerson to the executive leadership team on September 15 and showing him a very warm welcome to the island.

Mel
