CEO MESSAGE: Recent Events in British Columbia

February 11, 2026

Hi everyone,

Although we are on the other side of this country, this morning we share in the grief and shock of our fellow Canadians in British Columbia, and the families, moms, dads, brothers, sisters and friends as they experienced the unimaginable violence and loss yesterday.

This is a stark reminder that even in a country that values peace and community, that the unthinkable can happen. We extend our thoughts and our prayers to all of those impacted by this and let us also use it as a reminder to have our values drive our behaviour each day.

Our values of care, accountability and working together should underpin everything that we do and all our interactions as we deliver our work. Violence has no place in our society, in our words, in our actions, in our workplaces and institutions.

For staff who have experienced violence or the threat of violence in the workplace, I can appreciate how yesterdays events could be difficult for you. If you are feeling unsettled by this please speak with your colleagues or reach out to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) (1-800-239-3826, eap@gov.pe.ca) or our community open access clinics for support. They are there to support you.

Please join me in demonstrating our values and our commitment to a respectfully working with each other and the public, and demonstrating care and accountability in everything we do.

Mel
