Hi Health PEI team,
I am sending this note to say thank you for the especially hard work you’ve handled over the past few days. With staffing shortages and the high pressure of delivering excellent care, every day is full of challenges.
However, the past weekend was tougher than most.
Firstly, I want to thank those who responded to the patients from the tragic vehicle accident that happened Friday, leading to a Code Orange response at Prince County Hospital.
The PCH team stood up an incredible response at a time when the hospital was already busy. Your ability to dig deeper and provide the care needed always amazes me. This was an extremely difficult event, and my sympathies go out to the staff and the community.
Please know, there are resources available to you. If you need support, it is available through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), MindBeacon, and your leadership.
During the Code, our teams also struggled with severe over-capacity issues, made worse by COVID outbreaks in long-term care and hospital units. Over the long weekend, teams across the system worked to improve patient flow safely and effectively. Many people, from the front lines to leaders, spent tireless hours this weekend and continue to do so today. We have made progress on this front, but hospital capacity will continue to be tight today. We will continue to monitor and work through these issues.
