Child Care Supports - Additional Information

Thank you to staff who responded to our COVID Wellness email survey regarding your childcare arrangements and needs. Health PEI has been in communication with the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning regarding support that may be needed for essential services staff.
The Department of Education and Lifelong Learning announced additional child care supports (Jan 6/22 News Release) for children and families impacted by COVID. The Child Care Allowance provides $125 per child, per week (for the period of January 4-14, 2022), to help with child care costs to families with school aged children (ages 5 to 12) who have incurred additional expenses and were impacted by school closures. Licensed centres will receive the payment directly, while parents using private child care services can register online for the Child Care Allowance. Parents or guardians with children aged 0-5 years of age may also be eligible for the Child Care Allowance, if their family has been negatively impacted by COVID restrictions and their regular child care arrangement is not accessible to them as a result of public health measures (online application).
In addition, the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning is providing support for parents or guardians having difficulty finding child care for school-age children (ages 5 to 12) due to school closures.
Parents or guardians with questions can contact the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning directly at (902) 368-6518.
If you have any questions or concerns related to COVID, please reach out to the COVID Wellness email at for support.
