Heath leaders are required to think analytically and conceptually, questioning and challenging the status quo, to identify issues, solve problems and implement effective processes across systems and stakeholders. 

Description:

Abilities:

  • Health systems were not initially designed as holistic enterprises - modern health leaders are responsible for coordinating and aligning previously disconnected models in increasingly complex operating environments.

This is shown by having:

  • Long term thinking.
  • Coordination and Integration seeking skills.
  • Avoidance of turf protection.
  • A Consensus on important issues or priorities.
  • The ability to speak up.

The Practices and Skills may include:

  • Strategic planning.
  • Project / Program Management (PMI).
  • LEAN / 6 Sigma.

Tools:

  • Health PEI Planning and Accountability Framework which aligns the Strategic Plan with:
        - Strategic Initiatives,
        - Strategic Committees (ACOD, Q&SC, PMAC) - provide structured supports for systems change.
