From the desk of Dr. Michael Gardam, Health PEI CEO
As I said last week, we have many recognition days in April (and more to come!) This week, we recognize three groups who have a tremendous direct impact on the lives of patients and families, all in very different ways.
RCW/PCW/HSW Week
This week, we celebrate our Resident Care Workers (RCWs), Patient Care Workers (PCWs), and Home Support Workers (HSWs) who play a vital role in the PEI health system.
These individuals provide essential care and pivotal services within long-term care, acute care, mental health & addictions, community services and beyond.
RCWs, PCWs and HSWs make up a large part of our workforce at Health PEI, and they are valued members of the Health PEI team who are on the frontline of care. Thank you for your continued commitment to improving the lives of Islanders!
Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Week
Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOCs) have a unique role and expertise. These nurses offer treatment and management of wound, ostomy and continence needs. They educate and support patients and their families to improve self-engagement and informed care. These skills lead to higher-quality care and better outcomes for our Island patients. Thank you for all you do!
National Volunteer Week
Volunteers work in many locations across our health care system, from long-term care to hospitals to boardrooms as advisors and many places in between. They include valued Patient and Family Partners who help advise the health system with their experiences as well as our Partners in Care, who care for their loved ones. Volunteering in health care is indispensable, and I hope that, as healthcare workers, we all take time to thank those who lend a hand to help keep our system running.
Thanks,
Michael
