Note from Michael, Mar. 8, 2022 | Celebrating International Women's Day

From the desk of Dr. Michael Gardam, Health PEI CEO

Hi everybody,

This International Women’s Day theme, #BreakTheBias, is about taking action and raising awareness for gender equality.

Health care has a long history of advocating for equality, with icons such as Florence Nightingale looming large.

I recognize that despite Health PEI’s good work toward equality, we are have a lot of work to do to #BreaktheBias to create a gender-equal environment. We need to recognize the challenges of under representation and unequal experiences women face in the workforce, including those in BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. These challenges have been exacerbated by the pandemic, which has unfairly affected women more than men.

We all have a role to play in breaking the bias against women in our Island communities, workplaces and schools.

Today, we celebrate all of your accomplishments and recognize how fortunate we are to have you as such a major part of our teams!

Happy International Women’s Day!
