Note from Michael March 15, 2023 | Happy Health Human Resources Week

From the desk of Dr. Michael Gardam, Health PEI CEO

Notes from MichaelHi everybody,

It’s Health HR Week from March 13-17, when we recognize those who work within Human Resources and their key responsibilities within the health care system. Our HR team supports staff across the organization by navigating talent management, compensation, employee benefits, training and development, compliance, workplace safety (and much more!) A big thank-you to our HPEI Human Resources staff for the hard work they do daily for this organization. It is fact that our HR team is rebuilding and under extraordinary pressure to support the changes underway at Health PEI, while at the same time being seriously short staffed. They have a very important job ahead of them, but unlike our clinical workers whose challenges often make it into the media, the stress facing our HR team and other non-clinical functions rarely gets the same kind of acknowledgement.

It’s no secret that hiring, retaining, and supporting staff is a crucial focus for all health organization across Canada right now. Within Health PEI, Human Resource professionals are playing an important role in supporting the transformation of this organization into a place where staff are supported and want to work. There have been a lot of changes, and as we enact the People Strategy and the Employee Engagement Action plan over the coming weeks and months, everyone will have a role to play in ensuring the feedback you as staff have given is incorporated in our way forward.

Thanks,

Michael
