A leader must know what it is that he or she is doing, or has been doing, before attempting to change behavior.

Description:

  • To recognize one’s own emotions and to recognize their impact on others.

Abilities:

  • Able to be aware of emotions.
  • Able to recognize and share values and principles.
  • Able to be aware of their impact on others.

This is shown by having:

  • Awareness of impact on others.
  • Awareness of one’s own blind spots and assumptions.

  • Self-reflective practices such as keeping a journal or practicing mediation regularly.
