Health PEI staff and physicians have access to language interpretation support through Access Language Services (ALS). Services are 24/7 and are available for emergency situations and pre-booked appointments. Language interpretation services should be used when a client presents with a language barrier that will affect the quality of service delivery.
This is a phone-based interpreting service for Health PEI and offers many different languages.

Health PEI staff must identify themselves and their service site/department/unit when contacting ALS.
In non-emergency situations, the service is best utilized during business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). In emergency/after-hours situations, interpretation services are available, dispatched, and provided for an additional charge to Health PEI.
Following appropriate billing procedures:
- Billing is initiated to divisions when an interpreter is requested and dispatched.
- Finance will charge the billing costs to the requesting division.
