Health PEI Language Interpretation

When a client presents with a language barrier that will affect the quality of service delivery, you should use language interpretation services. If issues arise, escalate the interpreting need to your manager or supervisor.
Health PEI staff and physicians can access 24/7 phone-based language interpretation support in numerous languages through Access Language Services (ALS), a company based in Nova Scotia.

To access Language Interpretation Services

Health PEI staff must identify themselves and their service site/department/unit when contacting ALS.
For emergency and time-sensitive requests, phone 902-406-4600. In emergency/after-hours situations, interpretation services are provided for an additional charge to Health PEI.
In non-emergency situations, the service is best used during business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).  To pre-book appointments or for non-urgent requests, see the contact information on the Language Interpretation Services page on the Internal Information System (requires login).

Billing is initiated to divisions when an interpreter is requested and dispatched.
Finance will charge the billing costs to the requesting division.
