Note from Michael, Dec. 24, 2021 | Holiday message: You're appreciated

From the desk of Dr. Michael Gardam, Health PEI CEO

Hi everyone,

Seasons greetings and happy holidays. For those of you who celebrate Christmas, Christmas Eve is a special day and one I hope you are able to ignore email and work messages to rest and recharge this season.

Sadly, for many of you, it’s a work day in the middle of a pandemic. I can’t thank you enough for the work you’re doing. I sincerely hope that you will be able to find time soon to rest, connect with loved ones (in small circles of course) and enjoy yourselves.

Health care staff are always called to go above and beyond, but these past 22 months have been something else entirely.

I want you to know on behalf of Health PEI leadership how much you’re appreciated.

That’s why we’ve launched a campaign in newspapers and over social media sending a big thank you to staff everywhere. The campaign calls on Islanders to share their thanks over social media at #ThanksHealthPEIStaff.

I know we all hope for more than thanks—we want time off, we want to be able to get away from this horrible pandemic and get our lives back to normal. I hope, however, that you hear loud and clear how much the people you care for and protect every day appreciate you as well, whether you’re working today and over the holidays of whether you’re at home for a much deserved rest.

Personally, I want you to know that you are why I took this role and that I admire your dedication to Islanders despite these trying times.

Happy holidays,

Please send questions, comments, or submissions for these notes to emclean@gov.pe.ca, subject line “Notes for Michael”.
