As we continue to provide care and services to Islanders during this pandemic, we are all feeling the added stress and frustration of working to contain a virus that keeps coming at us.
One of the risks we face as individuals and as a system is burnout – everyone is stretched and despite our best efforts, COVID-19 won’t stop. Feelings of frustration, inefficacy and lack of control over the situation are common, especially as the system has to change, sometimes quickly, to address the realities of COVID cases.
I want you all to know that a) anyone can suffer from burnout, and b) looking for help and exercising self-care are not signs of weakness, but strength!
There are resources and strategies to help you manage burnout. Your COVID Wellness team has also arranged for priority access to EAP services. Employees who are in need of urgent mental health support are encouraged to reach out to the COVID Wellness Hotline to be connected with an EAP counsellor within 48 hours. Contact the COVID Wellness Team at email@example.com or leave a voicemail message at (902) 288-1055. Messages will be checked during the Hotline’s hours of operation: Monday-Friday from 6am-8pm and Saturday & Sunday from 10am-2pm.
