Note from Michael, Jan. 7, 2022 | Clarifying Masking and PPE Use

From the desk of Dr. Michael Gardam, Health PEI CEO

Hi everybody,

We continue to hear some confusion about PPE use for COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, especially regarding masking. We’ve updated the PPE guidance to make it even more clear, including the acceptability of using double masking even when there is no suspicion or confirmation of COVID-19, if you prefer that.

Please read these carefully and follow the direction in your daily work. There is a lot of information circulating on masking in the public from many sources, but the expectation of the Health PEI COVID-19 response team is that you follow this guidance, including doing your own Point of Care Risk Assessment (PCRA) to determine the best PPE for you in any specific situation.

For your reference, please view the upcoming Fit Testing schedule.

Please send questions, comments, or submissions for these notes to, subject line “Notes for Michael”.
