Your supervisor/manager will provide direction on these.
Before you start your new job
Before you start your new job, you will need to provide your human resources employee services assistant with the following:
- A signed pledge of confidentiality. PDF
- A signed Acceptable Use Agreement for Government-Provided Technology. PDF
- A completed criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check, if applicable. Your employee services assistant will provide you with the form and advice on where to go to obtain this. For more information, see the Health PEI Criminal Record Check Policy. PDF
4. Other supporting documents as required by your supervisor or employee services assistant (they will tell you what is needed, if applicable).
- For example, you may need to provide:
- proof of registration with a professional association
- any certificates/diplomas pertaining to your new position
- a copy of your driver’s license

The Staff Resource Centre
The page you are currently viewing is part of the Health PEI Staff Resource Centre (SRC).
The SRC is a website with information and resources for employees of Health PEI, medical staff, (including salaried, contract and fee-for-service physicians), other health care professionals (e.g., pharmacists, mental health social workers, resident care workers, etc.), and volunteers.

Health PEI Policies
Working in health care can be complex. Policies guide decision-making and streamline internal processes. They provide clarity and accountability about what is and isn’t acceptable within Health PEI.
All policies in this orientation apply to you as an employee of Health PEI, whether your position is full-time or part-time, permanent or contract.
Your role may also be impacted by other policies which your manager can share with you.

The Policy Document Management System
The PDMS (also referred to as Medworxx and the PDMS) is a central repository that stores Health PEI’s policy and procedures, clinical standards, guidelines and medical directives.
The PDMS is Health PEI’s authoritative source for policy documents.
You can access the PDMS on any device with internet access by logging in to the Policy Document Management System, using your Active Directory username and password (the same login and password for your computer).
Once in the PDMS, you can search for policies by title, keyword and category.
Privacy and Protection of Personal Information
Working at Health PEI, you will come in contact with patient personal health information and other records that may be sensitive or confidential.
This can happen as you are providing care to patients; when you are using patient information to complete job duties like quality improvement, risk management, reporting or program evaluation; or just by seeing or hearing patients while you are working in Health PEI facilities.
We are all required by law to protect this information and to use it appropriately. Privacy training ensures you are familiar with the rules for respecting patient privacy and handling records with care.

Workplace Hazardous Information System (WHMIS)
WHMIS is a comprehensive system for providing health and safety information on hazardous products intended for use, handling, or storage in Canadian workplaces. WHMIS training helps keep you, coworkers, patients, and visitors at Health PEI workplaces safe.
At the end of this orientation, you will need to sign a form attesting to having performed the steps below.

Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers confidential, professional counseling services to help resolve problems that affect your personal life and may affect work performance.

Training and Development
Health PEI Performance and Development
Health PEI recognizes and values the significant contributions of its employees to the provision of quality programs and services. We are committed to the continuous learning and professional development of all our employees.

Internal training and development
The Public Service Commission (PSC) offers workshops and other learning opportunities (Pathways to Learning) on a variety of topics for employees of Health PEI and The Public Service Commission.
On the PSC Learning and Development website, you can also find information about how to develop your skills as a leader, online courses and additional learning opportunities.
Funding for paid training
Health PEI and/or your union may be able to cover the cost of some or all of the cost of training taken outside of the government. Visit Development and Training Funds for a list of training funds offered by Health PEI and/or your union.
French language training
French Language Services offers courses in how to speak and write in French free of charge to provincial government employees. See the French Language Training Program page for eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Your learning and development plan
At least once a year, you should meet with your supervisor to talk one-on-one about your learning goals. Download the learning and development plan template. PDF
Collective Agreements
Collective agreements provide terms and conditions of employment for a group of employees. If your position is unionized, it is subject to your union’s collective agreement.
For your union’s collective agreement with Health PEI see the Collective Agreements page.
Staff who are not unionized are called excluded. If you are excluded, you can contact your employee services assistant for information on the terms and conditions of your employment.
Your Pay and Benefits
In order to be paid:
On your first day you will need to provide your manager, supervisor, or administrative assistant with your:
- Social Insurance Number
- Banking Information (institution, transit number, account number and/or a void blank cheque)
When do I get paid?
You will be paid every second Thursday for the two-week period (from Sunday to Saturday) ending two weeks prior. See the 2024 payday calendar. PDF
Where can I find my pay stub?
Your pay information is stored in an application called PeopleSoft. You can find your pay stubs (also called pay advices) by logging into Insite, selecting My HR and then Payroll.
To sign into Insite, use your computer login information or contact the ITSS Service Desk to set your password. (See the second last section on this page for ITSS Service Desk contact information.)
Public Sector Pension Plan (PSPP)
You will be automatically enrolled in the PSPP Pension Plan when you become permanently employed by Health PEI and will contribute to the plan through regular payroll deductions.

Benefit deductions
Eligibility for group benefits is determined by your status with the employer.
Permanent Employees – Pension (PSPP), group life, accidental death, and disability and long-term disability benefits are compulsory; health and dental are optional; union dues (if applicable) and general statutory deductions (income tax, EI and CPP).
Temporary Employees – general statutory deductions and union dues (if applicable). Group insurance benefits when eligible.
Casual Employees – general statutory deductions and union dues. Casual employees are paid an additional 12% greater than the first step in their classification in lieu of statutory holidays and vacation. Casual employees are not eligible for group insurance benefits.

Orientation and policy acknowledgment
You are almost done...
To complete your initial orientation and onboarding, please download and complete the Orientation and Policy Acknowledgement Form PDF and upload it to the Onboarding tile on PeopleSoft or, if you don't have access to PeopleSoft, return it to your employee services assistant.
This will be included in your employee record with Human Resources.
