AI Scribe

AI Scribe Pilot Program: Prince Edward Island

Health PEI, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Wellness, IT Shared Services and Canada Health Infoway, is launching a one-year AI Scribe pilot program to advance the use of AI Scribe in primary care and pediatric community-based care settings.

The pilot will support up to 100 eligible primary care providers and pediatricians using a single AI Scribe solution: Tali AI.

Tali AI was selected through a federal procurement process led by Canada Health Infoway. It is the only pre-qualified solution fully integrated with PEI’s Provincial EMR system, and it is also the only approved solution for use in Health PEI.

What are AI Scribes?

AI Scribes are AI-powered tools that summarize medically relevant conversations with patients and draft documents for health care providers to review. They offer significant potential to reduce administrative burden by automating time-consuming tasks such as documenting patient visits, updating electronic medical records, and summarizing treatment plans – freeing up valuable time for clinicians.

Eligibility

As per Canada Health Infoway requirements, the pilot is open to:

  • Primary care providers, specifically:
    –  Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
    –  Family Physicians
  • Pediatricians with community-based practices

Other participation requirements include:

  • Participating in Canada Health Infoway’s AI Scribe Evaluation
  • Adhering to minimum usage standards for the tool
  • Using official government-issued email address (i.e. @ihis.org address)

How to Participate

Eligible providers must indicate their interest in participating in the AI Scribe Pilot Program by responding to the enrollment email sent during the week of November 24, 2025, to their government-issued email address (i.e. @ihis.org).

Provider interest will be accepted until 12:00 p.m. (noon) AT on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Important Note: Pilot program capacity is limited. If interest exceeds available spots, participant selection be based on:

  • Proportional representation across provider groups (NPs, Family Physicians, Pediatricians)
  • FTE (with priority given to high FTEs)
  • Geographic distribution

Please Note: While other clinicians may benefit from an AI Scribe, this pilot is a first step to inform future expansion.

PEI Project Phases

To assess the potential of AI Scribe use in primary care and pediatric practices, Health PEI and the Department of Health and Wellness will launch the initiative in two phases:

Phase 1 – Testing (Late December 2025 – January 2026):
Small cohort to refine onboarding, support, and patient education.

Phase 2 – Pilot Roll-Out (January 2026):
Remaining licenses assigned; participants onboarded and asked to provide feedback throughout the year.
