The Department of Health and Wellness (DHW) and Health PEI (HPEI) is embarking on a journey towards improved resident quality of care with the implementation of electronic charting and a Province-wide approach to conducting resident assessments.

Project CRADLE is the name and acronym given to the project of replacing paper charts with electronic charts in all long-term care homes on PEI. CRADLE represents what the new information management system will enhance for long-term care. It stands for Care Planning, Reporting, Assessments, and Documentation for Long-term Efficiency.

The core project objectives are:

  • Improved Resident Quality of Care
  • Reduced Administrative Burden
  • Enhanced System Planning and Benchmarking Capabilities
  • Improved Collaboration and Scalability

What will the software do for long-term care?

In the first phase of Project CRADLE, we will be implementing the following features for PEI’s LTC homes:

  • Census management / resident profiles
  • Event scheduling
  • Infection and illness tracking
  • Trust account management
  • Electronic assessment and care plan completion from point of care devices
  • Streamlined processes for lab orders and results and referrals and consults
  • Electronic record transfers to and from other long-term care homes
  • Standardized completion of an internationally recognized resident assessment, the interRAI LTCF [VIDEO]. This will result in the ability for homes to show off the great work that PEI LTC does with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), and continuously receive up-to-date best practices for resident care.

Once this first phase of features is implemented in each PEI LTC home, there will be more features rolled out to work towards integrations with other healthcare systems in the Province (i.e., Pharmacies, Home Care, CIS).
